HOUSES ON THE MOON

DIRECTOR // CREATIVE DIRECTOR: BLAYZE TEICHER
SKIN TO SKIN

Founded in 2001, Houses on the Moon Theater Company "amplifies the unheard voice to inspire bold dialogue and ignite action. Through original performances, creative workshops, post-show conversations, and accessible ticketing, we unite communities through the public sharing of untold stories." For their 2025 production of SKIN TO SKIN, a new play co-created by Trixie Kioko-Kamps and Jeremy Kamps, the organization wanted a campaign that would amplify the play's core message responding to the Black Maternal Health Crisis.

The Challenge

This organization specializes in new play development and this script has been a part of their programming for multiple seasons in many forms (readings, workshops). Still in final stages of development, the playwrights didn't want to hear any specific lines from the play included in this ad for the upcoming production. We needed to create a campaign that honored the story and captivated audiences without sacrificing or rushing the artistic process.

The Strategic Approach

A cacophonous audio/visual experience that encapsulates the chaos and outrage within these character-specific perspectives.

The Creative

PART 1

We see: a birth consultation in a health care provider's office with one, central Black female expectant mother being examined. Through disjointed close ups, this is just a "routine" check up to the doctor.

We hear: voice over, a cacophony of many Black AFAB voices, speaking lines from the play, that are growing with urgency, muffled.

PART 2

Builds to: One singular voice emerges through the chaos. The expectant mother takes control of the narrative. With a clarifying look, she gets the doctor to see and hear her.
